Shift-S3ctor returns with our fifth installment of Airstrip Attack, April 19th and 20th, in Coalinga, CA.
What: ½ Mile Side by Side Racing Event and Trap Speed Competition.
When: April 19th and 20th. Gates open at 7AM. Mandatory drivers meeting at 8:00AM.
Where: The New Coalinga Municipal Airport. 27500 West Phelps. Coalinga, CA.
Shift-S3ctor is excited to announce that our fifth Airstrip Attack will be April 19th and 20th at the New Coalinga Municipal Airport in Central California (2 and a half hours north of LA, 2 hours south of the Bay area). This will be a 1/2 mile, side by side racing event and trap speed competition.
Registration and ticket sales open on March 3rd for both drivers and spectators. We are limiting this event to 100 cars per day and expect to sell out quickly. Last event sold out in 5 days (24 hours for Saturday). Once we are full, registration will close and we will begin a wait list.
The Breakdown:
Saturday, April 19th – Open runs + Trap Speed Trophy Competition
On Saturday, the day will be open runs throughout the majority of the day; run whoever you want. At the end of the day on Saturday, we will be having a Trap Speed Competition. Those that choose to compete for the trophy competition (this must be selected at the time of online registration) will be placed in a bracket beforehand in order to compete for trophies. Cars must meet a specific and more stringent tech inspection and drivers must qualify* beforehand. (For tech inspection and qualifying requirements, see below). The fastest trap speed MPH in the following categories will receive trophies.
Trap Speed Competition Classes:
FWD Unlimited Naturally Aspirated Unlimited
AWD Unlimited BMW/AMG Unlimited
RWD Unlimited Sedan Unlimited
Overall Trap Speed Champion
Sunday, April 20th – Open runs + Roll Racing Trophy Competition
On Sunday, we will have open runs throughout the majority of the day again, but at the end of the day we will have a Roll Racing Competition Bracket. Similar to the Trap Speed Competition, those that wish to be placed in the bracket for the Roll Racing Competition must register to compete at the time of online registration. Those competing will be required to meet a specific tech inspection and drivers must qualify* beforehand.
Roll Racing Competition Classes:
FWD Unlimited Naturally Aspirated Unlimited
AWD Unlimited BMW/AMG Unlimited
RWD Unlimited Sedan Unlimited
Overall Roll Race Champion
Recent Changes:
Due to the inability to police horsepower numbers, we have eliminated horsepower tiers from the trophy competitions. It is now unlimited and therefore “sandbagging” or lying about horsepower is meaningless. We have therefore created a new realm of classes accordingly to keep it fair.
We have also created a system to choose to compete for trophies as you register online (for a small additional fee). Therefore, we know in advance who is competing for trophies and we can bracket accordingly. It is too difficult to watch every car, every pass, and determine who will be the most competitive.
This still allows everyone (competing for trophies or not) to participate in open runs all day as we have done before. The only difference is the pre-chosen trophy competitors will be placed into a bracket at the end of the day.
Who Can Come:
The event is open to all types of cars and all horsepower levels. This is a PRIVATE EVENT NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Each registered driver may bring up to 3 guests/crew. All others who wish to spectate must purchase spectator tickets available here on our website. We are only selling a limited number per day in order to meet our capacity requirements. If you are not a registered driver, a guest of a registered driver, or have secured a spectator spot, YOU WILL NOT BE LET IN THE GATE.
Spectators who purchase tickets are required to print out their emailed ticket confirmation. We will match it with our access list at the front
Event Sponsorship:
We have limited sponsor spots, and it is first come first serve. Please email jason@shift-s3ctor.com with questions, concerns, or to reserve your spot.
Media:
Media teams who wish to cover the event with regard to filming and photography, please contact Ryan: ryan@shift-s3ctor.com. Media must be on our guest list as well to gain access to Airstrip Attack. We require all media to fill out our media waiver and rights form. You will need to check in at the Media tent to acquire your media vest and badge first thing in the morning. WE DO NOT ALLOW SALES OF PHOTOGRAPHY AT OUR EVENT.
Pre-Registration:
We will be having a “pre-registration” from 8pm to 10 pm on Friday night at the host hotel location. (See below for lodging). If you are staying at the hotel, it is best to register the night before to get checked in with us. Therefore, you can bypass registration the following morning at the event.
What to bring/Tech:
Standard Drivers:
It is mandatory to bring a helmet (Snell 2000+) and a completely filled out and signed waiver/self tech form. Cars anticipating to run over 199MPH require a mounted fire extinguisher, roll bar, and fire jacket. We do however recommend additional safety equipment FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS including but not limited to: Roll bar or full cage, fire suit and clothing/gloves, fire suppression system, hans or similar type of restraint for neck protection, arm restraints or window net. You are responsible for ensuring the safety and capabilities of your car at this event.
All convertibles require roll over protection: either factory or an aftermarket roll bar.
Trophy Competitors:
Cars must meet individual tech inspection to insure their safety for the competition. There are also qualifying requirements. *Although it is not required, it is HIGHLY recommended you participate Saturday to qualify your vehicle so as not to take up time or be rushed on Sunday for the actual competition*
Licensing/Tech Rules:
Due to the exponentially high levels of horsepower in the participating cars, we are instituting a few new rules to ensure the safety of everyone at the event. We now have a licensing system needed to go over 180MPH. If you are running sub 180MPH the entire event, you do not need to qualify for a license.
All cars exceeding 180+MPH:
It is required that all cars aiming to trap over 180+ go through our own independent tech inspection in addition to filling out your self tech form. This will occur on grid either before your first run or before your second run.
To be licensed to go 180+mph, each driver must do two solo passes (one in each lane) between 170mph and 180 mph. This is to ensure that you can do a safe pass at that speed as observed by our staff. Once we see you have accomplish two safe passes, we will issue you a wristband licensing you to go over 180+mph.
Qualifying for a license on Saturday will be good for both days of the event.
Licenses issued in our records to drivers at our October Airstrip Attack are valid for this event. You do not need to go through licensing again if you already did at the last event, your car will still need to be tech’d however. At our discretion, we may issue provisional licenses for certain individuals we have seen at past events accomplish these requirements already.
If you exceed 180MPH with a car that has not been through our tech inspection and/or you are not licensed to go over 180MPH, you will be restricted to sub 180MPH. If you continue to go beyond that, you will be removed from the event without refund.
NO ALCOHOL IS ALLOWED ON THE PREMISES – As set by the City.
Mandatory Waiver and Self Tech Form:
In order to check-in, you must show up to registration (or pre-registration) the day of the event with your filled out waiver and tech form. It can be found here: Waiver and Self Tech form (Click here)
Hotels and Lodging:
We reserved the entire Best Western hotel at Kettleman City. You must mention Shift-S3ctor to be able to book a room, otherwise they will tell you it is sold out.

Can you give a newbie an idea of how many runs I can expect for each day?
Average of 8 to 10. If you consistently keep running, then typically more. If you take longer breaks and hangout, typically less.
OWill there be a list of cars/participants on this site for this event?
Yes, we will post a list of registered vehicles in the next few days.
Is there an age limit to the saterday event? I have a 4 year old and was wondering if this would be sutible event for him to come to?
As a Spectator any age is welcome!
Can Spectators register anytime, how many Spectators are allowed and does that get sold out as well?
Spectators must purchase tickets through the website as we are permitted a few hundred by the city.
hope to get some coverage of this years event !! this will be our first shift s3ctor ,so stoked!!
Slightly confused about how the race works. Is hitting the first cone at 50 done so on the honor system? If a car gets to 50 faster then the other car, he would hit the take off cone sooner right? I am sure you guys will clarify the rules at the meeting. I am also a newbie to this.
All will be explained in the driver’s meeting, but yes. For open runs during the day, you can agree to whatever speed you wish against your opponent and it is on the honor system. During the trophy competition, however, we place someone at the start cone to make sure nobody jumps.
Passengers I believe are allowed but everyone in the vehicle must be wearing helmets
This is correct. Passengers will be required to sign a separate waiver and must be wearing a Snell2000+ helmet.
Is the list of cars going to be listed soon?
The registered list will be posted in the next few days
about what time do the festivities normally come to a close?
Racing generally ends between 5 and 5:30 and everyone must be off the property by 6PM.
